24 Hours of Us

Note that there are no pictures of Joe II in this entry. In the past 24 hours he has been either working or sleeping. He will see daylight again... Only one more week until he starts the new job!

It is Saturday evening and I am pooped. Our weekends are certainly the most hectic time of the week. Joe and I alternate between jobs and hanging with Joseph. Joe gets very little sleep, I get very little else done (laundry, dishes...) but we have survived this weekend after weekend for the past four months or so.

On the left and below is Joseph with his lion. The lion inspires him to cuddle or feign sleeping for some reason. They are roughly the same size. These pictures were taken yesterday afternoon.

He was being remarkably mild. I think he was just sensing the coming visit of his new friend Simon.Simon is my friend Rachel's son. He is about five years older than Joe and is fast becoming one of Joseph's favorite people. The two of them become a sort of blur of activity the second that Simon arrives until the moment he leaves.Simon has a younger brother who is almost Joseph's age. Joseph obviously appreciates getting to borrow an experienced older brother every once and while. (He likes playing with Simon's brother Streeter, too) It is great that he is making his first friends. Pictured above is Simon as a sort of monster entertaining Joseph as he eats his ripped up burito and a pink letter "e".

Above is a picture I took at 6:00 this morning (note the 'seat' Joseph has improvised for his contemplative moment with his toys). I woke up to excruciatingly loud music. Joseph had reached through his crib and pulled the table holding his stereo until he was able to reach the volume control. He seemed quite pleased with himself. I worked today. As I said: weekends are hectic. Joe works until 7a.m. He comes in and gets a 2 hour nap before taking over the Joseph stuff. I don't know how he manages on such little sleep. Bless him... really. ]
So today I was at the store. It was snowy and cold and slow, sadly. I did manage to take a bunch of pictures for another blog. I also got to visit with a few friends that dropped by- I end up seeing most people that way lately- it is easier than cleaning for company:) I also get a lot of reading done. I TRY to get reading done. Today I brought a book that ended up being almost completely unreadable. I won't go into a full bull review. It was just really hard to get into the story. It was very trite and every detail was given the attention of an 19th century ode. On and on and on and on with lines and lines of description. I swear I read about 30 pages without a thought crossing my mind.
I ended up spending most of the day staring at the snow out the window and listening to Ladytron .
(Need some knit monkeys from Peru? I can hook you up) (maybe a Japanese frog radio?)

I can't believe it was snowing!!!!!!!!! Anyway- now I am home. Joe is getting two more hours of sleep before he has to go work again.... Here is another picture of our little dynamo: (admiring himself in mirror)

'toasted o' of enlightenment?

Again: so long between updates. A lot of it has to do with the light and a the state of my camera. Really... I swear!! Our apartment gets very bad light this time of year. A lot of the time I have spent with Joseph outside lately has involved him riding on my back- not many photo-ops there. Just wait for spring!!!! I cleaned my camera lens yesterday... we will see if that also makes a difference the next time around... Until then: here is us doing our thing.

Like Joseph with a toasted o on his head getting ready to sing into the mic. Germ-a-phobes should stay clear of that mic while visitting us, btw. Just a little warning. The most exciting news to report: Joe 2 has a new job. It involved a few interviews, a personality test of some sort, a physical... he finally won out and passed their tests and now he gets to sleep at night like the rest of the world. It will be a HUGE change. Joseph (3) seems to think that daddy lives in our bedroom. Every time I ask him 'where's daddy' he points towards our room since, naturally, daddy is usually trying to sleep in there every daylight hour that he can. Poor Joe (2), but no more! Well, not more than a couple of weeks!! Congratulations!
We had a lovely Valentines Day. Half of our plans have been postponed until tomorrow. We had planned to go out for dinner... well, big lunch more likely, with Joseph in the middle of the day. Joe had to go (ace) his pre-employment physical that day so things got put off. No matter, it can be a sort of celebratory 'you got a job' thing, too, now. We won't waste any time feeling secretly stressed as we have been.

Valentine's night I hung out with the Trueworthys for a bit while Joe was still at work. They were in the thick of a car failure that day. Good new car luck to you guys!! Joe and I had champagne and strawberry tart-ish things later. These things are real treats these days. We are all about conserving money and health these days. What fun :/. I am sure we will thank ourselves later.Joseph (3) has been a real dynamo lately. We have had a long streak of great moods and a few days of great weather. The little guy likes getting out and about. We try to do it every day. Try is the important word here. The last couple of weeks have included things like a 'noreaster', a day of 60 mph winds, and a 'coldsnap'. Luckily they have also included things like a few 50 degree sunny days. Last Thursday Joseph and I took the ol' stroller down to the old port and fended off the seagulls for a couple of hours. It made me really anxious for summer. Not even summer, just spring!!! Some time of year when we can consistently get out of our little apartment and interact with the rest of the world.

I am trying to think of anything else to say about recent history. Joseph has made a couple of new friends: Streeter and Simon. Joe and I look forward to enjoying a life that involves more than the 'try to sleep', get to work, try to get housework done continuum. Stay tuned.
